Born January 31, 1978 Kyn ( DJKY ) Mixson is a urban open format DJ & Producer from Chester, PA, just 15 minutes from Philadelphia. He has mastered all music genres demanded by partygoers, wedding attendees, and more. KY's DJ journey took flight as a 6th grader. From the time he saw his older brother and friends DJing, he knew this was would be his calling. He worked his way up to becoming a Power 99FM DJ, WUSL Philadelphia. During that time he was a on air DJ ( live remotes & live from various clubs ) and had his own show that was called the PowerDome, on Friday's 2AM to 5AM. His talent had already landed him at all the hot spots & clubs in Philly. Having built an impressive name for himself on the street, DJKY became a fixture in the Philadelphia, Delaware and New Jersey area club scene. In 2005 he won Philly's Best DJ Award. In 2006 he made the appearance on VIACOM/BET Rap City. In the same year DJKY opened JAY-Z’s 40/40 Club in Atlantic City, NJ and immediately became the resident DJ.
In 2010 DJKY headlined a Diddy party in Las Vegas for the Floyd Mayweather fight afterparty at Club Eve. This was the start of a string of Diddy parties he would continue to do and that opened up the Los Angeles market for him. It was also during this time that he started to enter into the stripclub dj scene. Initially that wasn’t his thing, but like any great DJ he adapted to his environment and put his spin on rocking Stripclubs! KY has had some legendary nights in Stripclubs around the country including DJing and hosting for Floyd Mayweather at Vanity Grand in Philadelphia. KY has rocked numerous clubs on both coast with celebrities from Diddy, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Neyo, Eve, and a host of Sports, Tv & Movie Stars. He has also shared turntables with Funk Master Flex & Kid Capri just to name a few. Currently, he’s a resident in Nightclubs & Stripclubs in the Philly area. He is now focusing on production under the name KMIXSON. He has signed on with Philadelphia based label Illvibemedia and New York based Crooklyn Clan record pool.
I got my start way back in 1984. Went I used to go to the rollerskating rink in Blue Bell, PA, where I grew up, and loved watching the DJ spin records. Old records, which were new back then like Taco - "puttin on the ritz." Remember watching him light up the energy in the room, and found my calling.
Saved up enough money to buy some turntables and a mixer, and started my own mobile DJ company "Music Makers" featuring DJ Jack Daly!
By the late 1980's I found myself working along side some of the greatest DJ's to ever play music. The one and only Frankie "Who" Sestito, who I had the pleasure of playing lights for at Shadows nightclub, and Steve Singer, who I also played lights for.
I later got my chance in the spotlight, working at some major nightclubs in Philly/Jersey like Shadows, Images, Networks, Nightworks, Quincy's, Outback Jack, Touche, Gators, Escape, Taylors, and a couple of fill ins at Pulsations watching the master Jeff Rice at work. I also had a long tenure at Gilhooleys in Margate for 8 summers.
During those times I got to work closely with some of the local radio stations, and was baptized with the name "Jack da Wack," by Spyder Harrison of Eagle 106! The name stuck, and a star was born!
I retired from the business in 1996 to become a professional airline pilot, but never lost my love for music or DJ'ing.
When Marty D called me about doing a mix appearance on partysavers101, I became so excited to be called out from the ashes to relive my love of mixing music. It's so humbling!
Loving music is something that a DJ has in him/her forever, and never leaves you!
